Bring me to life - Evanescence
Some of you old foggies will remember George Michael when he was still in the pop group "Wham!", singing "Wake me up before you go-go", wearing his all white outfit wif the words "Choose Life" written on his t-shirt.
Those who are not so old will remember Ewan McGregor - before he was strong in the force - as a drug addict in Glasgow who at the end of the movie, "Trainspotting", exhorts that we Choose Life!
Well, last nite i watched a movie (yes another one!!!!) which had the same theme - it was a Jap anime screened by the Jap Society (they have free screenings every Friday nite). It was simply awesome! The English name of the anime is "Mind Game".
It is anime as i've never seen before - it uses all the tricks in the books! But it's not just that they "rojak"-ed it. It was done really well! Different styles to depict different moods. I just cant explain it - you have to see it to understand.
What really impressed me most were the angles used for each scene - very unconventional but very well done. As an anime feature, it is not limited by the placement of cameras and thus it takes you to views that is not possible if using the conventional style (altho wif the computers these days, the same can be achieved).
Of course it has it's fair share of violence (at the beginning only) and humour. There's this hilarious scene where he meets "God" - and there's the brilliant scene when he tries to run out of a whale!!!!!! You read that correctly!!! I wont go into details! Surely one is not meant to take some things too seriously.
But the message was clear - no matter who you are, you can still choose to live your life to its fullest! Seize the day. Carpe diem. Make the best of it.
After all, Jesus did say that he came that we may have life, and to have it to the full!
OK - time for my 3rd movie of the week-end! ;-P Let's see wat DVDs i have...
