Unforgettable - Nat King Cole

I had an unforgettable day yesterday - i spent the whole day in the Wimbledon grounds! Man, it was like a dream come true for me!


Me ticket and me queue card. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tournament where u have to queue up to get tickets!!!! Thank God they issued queue cards!

I survived the entire day on just a slice of toast and a cup of coffee which Fred made for me that morning - but only cuz he insisted on making sumthing for me and i finally agreed to one slice of toast! There were times i felt like fainting under the blazing hot sun - i was just running on adrenaline!!!!

Watching the games in real life is different from watching it "live". For one - which i realised quickly - i had to pay attention all the time. There were no instant replays!!!! :-)

Another was that i had to control myself. I mean, i tend to get quite noisy and involved while watching the games live telecast back home (until me mom will come downstairs and wonder who is making all the noise at 2 am in the morning!!!!)!

But i realised that i could easily cost the players points. There were a few occasions at the beginning when i blurted out "Out!!!" - but the linesperson did not agree. It was a good thing it wasn't loud enuf to distract the players - i was at Court 18 and i was standing at an elevated place. But when i went to the smaller courts later, i had to keep in mind to shut up!

I almost lost it during this one game between a Japanese pair and a Russian pair. The Jap girl hit a brilliant forehand which landed on the line - it was so obvious as the line was less than 10 feet away from me - and i specifically saw the chalk flew up! The linesperson at the other end called "Out"! I was flabbergasted and started telling people around me "But the chalk flew up"!!!! I was almost gonna shout to the umpire... yeah, got too involved. It was fun!

The emotions are so raw among the players too! Sure, you get the close-ups on TV in slo-mo too but to have them just a few feet away from you, shouting in frustration (Bracialli in Italian, Dementieva in Russian, Shiau Peng in Mandarin etc.), it is different - you actually feel it!

For me Bible reading yesterday, I came across one of me all time fav verses - those who have worked wif me before will find this pretty familiar ;-)

It's from Isaiah 40v31. For context, here are verses 29 - 31:-

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Rainy days and Mondays - The Carpenters

I was tempted to name this post "Ironic". After all, we have been having such a dry spell lately. There is a drought alert in this part of the UK. When i was at me fren's place in London last week, he apologised for not flushing his toilet cuz of the drought situation. The past couple of weeks also saw some of the hottest weather this year!

But when Monday came, the heavens opened and it rained - all day long was the forecast. It wasn't wrong.

Monday happened to be the first day of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship!!!!! How ironic.

When i woke up Monday morn, it was so hard to get up and out of me duvet. It has been so long since i could sleep while it rained outside - one of life's underrated pleasures! :-)

But i knew i had to go to London. I knew if i stayed here, it would be another day of just blogging, jamming on the guitar, watching footie and watching TV series. So i dragged meself out of bed and went to London i did!

It was nice, tho. Reminds me of the London i used to know - wet, gloomy, moody, not that many people.

Well, gloomy weather + first work day of the week = feeling down? Not for me, actually. Me love the rain and the moody weather! And for a person who has not been working a full day for like... so long, the fact that it was Monday could not get me down!

I was feeling down, tho - but tt's for other reasons.

Still, the high point that day was that i managed to study. It was a great massive struggle, tho. It's like me brain refuses to study anymore! Either it has been at rest too long since me exams last month or it has been too overworked for the past 8 months that it is holding a boycot.

It was worrying at first - i struggled to keep me eyes opened and me mind focussed. Mind you, this is interesting stuffs! i enjoy studying this. But wat an uphill climb. When i stopped for a break and pulled out Archer from me bag, i was wide awake again, i was in the States, in Korea, in Rome etc. But once i turned back to me studies, Mr. Sandman comes again.

Still, i was thankful - i plodded on and it became a lil easier. The materials i found at the LSE Library are really good - unfortunately, they dun let me take books out. All in all, 4 hours of studying and many many pages of good notes. Not bad for my first attempt at returning to study! :-)

So off again to London today i will go. Hoping for an even more fruitful study session. And i plan to drop by Wimbledon tomorrow... spending the nite at London. No footie matches these 2 days anyways! Gonna start work on campus on Friday, tho.

They are showing the games live on BBC Online - streaming video!!!!! Another reason why i have to get out of me room. I did manage to catch Ai Sugiyama today - she's really good, altho the Brit teen gave her a good fight. But Ai upped her game in the last few games and won it! Cool! I enjoy watching people like Hingis and Sugiyama play - they depend on skills and brains instead of brute power.

Oh, oh, did u guys see Federer in his cool suit? That was interesting!!!

It was a performance that Al Pacino would have been proud of! The way how he theatrically fell down and clutch his face like Mike Tyson punched him. I wish Mike would do so now...

The instant replays showed clearly that Puyol did not come close to Henry's face at all! Everyone in the bar saw that and whistled.

But the referee was conned, the freekick was given, the goal was scored and Spain is out.

Well, maybe Spain only had themselves to blame for not finishing the game off earlier. But for a person of the skill (i mean in the footballing sense) of Henry to stoop so low and resort to play acting was something we did not need to see in a fast-paced and entertaining match.

Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

Who says cheaters never prosper? :-(

I'm back! Din notice i was gone? Well no proper posts since Wednesday - and my regular readers (che wah, like real) would know that that is some record of sorts!

Too many issues - but life goes on - and so must the blogging!!!!

OK - there are a few things about girls which are a sure bet, 100%, which will attract me. There's the smile, there's the eyes, (used to be the hair too but bad experiences with some girl wif nice hair... :-P), ... and finally, if she plays the guitar!!!!!

There's this thing about a girl playing a guitar that works for me... Sigh....

No wonder i'm a big fan of people like Jewel, Lisa Loeb, Avril Lavigne (altho some say her guitar-ing bluff one), Alanis etc.

Now add Ching to the list!

The fact that she has a sweet smile, nice eyes (and hair!) and has an awesome voice really helps too!!!!

The sign - Ace of Base

"Yeah?" I shouted, when the rap on me door was heard. The door opened slowly. I knew it has to be Michelle. It was her style. She had that look on her face.

"I think we need to put up a new sign in the toilet".

Oh dear...

She motioned me towards the toilet and i reluctantly followed. A quick inspection of the toilet left me in disgust!!!!!!

Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wat is his problem???????????? This is so so so so basic! If you are a guy, u lift up the toilet seat before peeing!!! Even if you think your aim is so good!

This is so inconsiderate - esp to the girls in the flat.

Oh, we know who he is. Trouble is that we have not caught him red-handed... or red... ermm.. nvm.

So until we are positively sure, it may not be so wise to go confronting some guy on this kinda issue.

We both went back to our respective rooms and both came up wif a new sign to be posted up!

Here they are. No prizes for guessing which one was done by me and which was done by Michelle!!!!!





I told Michelle that we'd go wif the yellow sign first - and if that doesn't work, then we'll go wif the white one. She agreed.

I really liked this movie as it was based loosely on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew". And the fact that it starred Julia Stiles helped too!

There's another scene too where the characters of "Shaun of the Dead" beat up a zombie to the music of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now". Hilarious - but due to some "colourful" language, the clip will not be posted on me blog!

I'm beginning to see a trend on these unforgettable scenes - song and/or dance themes seem to play a prominent part! But i'm sure WS can see some other themes...

Water runs dry - Boyz II Men

Pop-quiz - who was the leader of the Isrealites who brought them across a river on dry ground?

Top marks if your answer is Joshua (Moses brought them across the Red Sea)!

We were doing Joshua chapter 3 for Bible Study last Wednesday (read the passage here).

Basically, the passage was about the preparation for the river crossing and subsequently the actual crossing of River Jordan into Jericho.

While River Jordan may not have been as dramatic as the drying of the Red Sea - and hence, it always lived (unfortunately) in the shadow of the latter - it was nonetheless a great miracle.

Evidence showed that at that point of time (harvest), the River Jordan around Jericho is overflowing - and is longer that 100 yards in breadth. Those who have seen rivers swelled up and rushing on will have an idea of how scary it is to even take a boat across!

There were a few things which came to mind as we did the passage:-

1. Jeff pointed out interestingly the contrast of attitudes between the Israelites and their forefathers. In the past (40 years ago to be exact), their fathers were at the same point - just about to enter into Jericho. But they were filled with fear and disbelief. They were complaining. They rebelled against Moses and God. They even accused God of taking them thus far only to murder them!

Yet in Joshua 3, we see none of that. The people were quiet and obedient. They did as they were told. They trusted God.

Wat a lesson! I admit that there are times when i still complain if things dun go the way i want them too - and this in spite of seeing how God time and time again was in control of everything and that all was done for my good.

2. And the faith! Wow! Look at verse 9. The waters will only be cut off when the priests set foot on the river!!!!! Yet none of the priests suggested "Lord, why dun you dry up the river first and then only we step foot in it?"

A small step by the priests - but wat a leap of faith it was. Imagine the scene - they priests all decked up in their garments, carrying the ark of covenant, at the end of an overflowing river wif strong currents. Did they pause slightly just before they went in? Or did they just carry on walking? We dun know but we do know that they did walk into the river.

3. This passge is again another reminder that with God, nothing is impossible. This miracle was more than just a pointless show of might or a pre-war entertainment!

Try being in the sandals of the Israelites - most did not cross the Red Sea. if they did, they were really young. So yes, they have heard of the great and mighty signs that God had done in the past.

But that was so long ago...

And then imagine their reaction when they see the River drying up in front of them, just like how the Red Sea was parted. Note that the passage said that they crossed over on dry land! Not only were the waters stopped but the ground was made dry! Millions of Israelites crossed over that day.

What a reminder and reassurance from God that he is all powerful!

As Joshua said in verse 10 - "This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites."

Yet how many times we have looked in a situation and gave up hope? No way that is gonna happen. No way he will believe. No way she will change.

With God, all things are possible! Matthew 19v26

Am looking forward to this Wednesday's Bible Study - even if it means that i'll be missing the Argentina v. Holland game!!!!!!

Don't give up on us - David Soul

It was a real boring match last nite. Almost as bad as any of England's games! South Korea were so lost. They were like the little bird that wandered into me old house last time and kept on flying onto the glass window, trying in vain to fly out. They had no imagination watsoever. And in spite of their physical disadvantage, they persisited on putting the long balls up front - and not reaping any rewards.

France was a disgrace. After the early lead, they had no initiative at all! No urgency. They were content to just sit back and snuff out all of Korea's long balls in to their box!

I have to admit that i gave up and went to the kitchen to wash me dishes. But when i got back, i was surprised to see the score levelled at 1-1!!!! This was the moment of truth:-

At the end of the day, credit must be given to the Korean team. Even the BBC pundits did that. The Koreans tried and tried, and they tried and tried. And they never gave up! And finally, all their efforts were rewarded. May not win any prizes for most beautiful goal but hey, it ended up in the goal, behind the line, and tt's all that mattered!

Oh, it oso may turn out to be one of the World Cup's funniest moment! Watch the clip again and in one of the replays (the reversed angled replat), you get to see William Gallas' reaction to the goal. Simply hilarious - and Ian Wright at the BBC studio couldn't stop laughing.

Sure, we all pity Gallas. Look at the way how the ball arch over him and all he could do was to look helplessly and not be able to anything about it. The only thing he could do was jump and spike it out - but that would have been really, really low, and the worst kind of unsportsmanship.

His frustration was so evident - so while we feel for him, we have to say it was pretty amusing display of emotion!

Ah... that's the beauty of footie!

Oh, just one more note of that game - the South Korean fans were fantastic! As Alan hansen said, they were the 12th player for the team. They never gave up, they kept at it all nite, singing their hearts out, hitting on the drums, cheering their team on! Truly brilliant!

Oh, for those who missed the brilliant penalty save yesterday by Kawaguchi, here it is - and as per the previous clip, me dun know wat language - but footie transcends all barriers! :-)

Yeah, in another dilemma now. Was surfing this morning and came across info on the Tower of London Music Festival which is starting soon! (see here)

Guess who'll be one of the performers? Jamie Cullum!!!!!!!!!

I remembered going to the CD store and listening to his CD, to check out what the hype is all about. I was hooked from the very first song - and when it came to his brilliant cover version of "I could have dance all night", i stopped listening and bought the CD immediately! :-)

The problem is that on the performers' list is also Fourplay!!!!!! They'll be performing wif Al Jarreau!!!

Of course there are other performers that i could live wif not watching but wouldn't mind - Jeff Beck & Buddy Guy, Dionne Warwick, James Brown,... Pet Shop Boys(?)!!!

So Jamie or Fourplay?

But the problem doesn't end there. The cheapest tickets are 35 quid!!!! The 35 quid tickets for Jamie Cullum are oredi sold out! So 45 quid is the next possibility (RM300)!

Am i willing to fork out so much? Is Jamie worth it? Are Fourplay that good? Trouble is that Jamie always gets rave reviews for his high energetic and fun concerts. Fourplay? i've seen them live on DVD before - and there's no question of their excellence!

Sigh... how now, brown cow?

The best solution maybe is to sit outside the Tower of London and listen to the concert free! ;-P

One moment in time - Whitney Houston

So far, there has not been that one defining moment in the World Cup. Not for me. Sure, it has been one of the best World Cups i've seen. It has had it's fair share of brilliant goals and fancy footwork. It has had blood and heart-breaking moments.

But none that truly lifted me up.

Sure, the Argentinian display the other day was excellent. It scored high on the aesthetic scale but did little comparably on the emotional side since me no big fan of them.

Gerrard's strike did evoke some sort of emotion - but that was purely the Red in me reacting.

But today, finally, a moment of pure brilliance that equalled the emotional experience! :-)

After battling hard, Japan gave away a penalty unnecessarily! The pub feel into an unusual silence as all of us Japanese fans dreaded the inevitable moment.

It will be an uphill climb for them - they have matched Croatia so far but still...

Some of the girls in the front row were oredi preparing themselves fo despair. Surely for all of Kawaguchi's skill, it would be hard to imagine him keeping the ball out of the net.

Then the moment came. It was a sweetly struck penalty - hard, low, on target.

But equally sweet was Kawaguchi's dive to his left - just like he expected it (the ball) to go that direction. With a strong hand, Kawaguchi pushed the ball away and out for a corner.

The whole bar erupted in deafening cheers (there weren't that many of us but it was loud - or maybe it was only me who was so loud? ;-P) and spontaneous applause!

What a moment!

Despair into joy. Sadness into happiness. Resignation into hope.

OK - i exaggerate, but not by much! ;-)

That was the moment so far!

Truth be told, i was a little concern after that save. In me opinion, the first goal conceded against Australia the other day came right after a brilliant save by Kawaguchi - and it was as a result of his mistake. A case of over-confidence?

But we neededn't be afraid cuz minutes after that brilliant save, Kawaguchi was humbled and almost embarrassed as an innocuous back pass suddenly bounced on the turf and away from his control, thankfully, rolling behind him and out of play for a corner! We all broke into relieved laughter!

It was truly an enjoyable match - and kudos to both set of players who ran themselves to the ground in the heat. No lack of excitement - only a lack of goals.

So Japan will now have to beat Brazil! Yeah, that was always part of the plan! ;-)

Not long after i woke up this morni... erm... afternoon, i heard the unmistakable sound of jet engines. I knew immediately wat they were and quickly swept the curtains aside, looking out for red colured jets, flying on the way to London. I saw them! :-)

I had read earlier in the week about the continuing celebrations of HRM The Queen's birthday today. And i really wanted to go to London to join in with the celebrations. After all, she will never turn 80 again! ;-P

To add to my interest, i read that the famed Red Arrows will be making a flypast!

I've always been in love wif planes - when younger, i would buy models after models of planes and spent hours fixing them up. I would buy books on planes (or just hang out at the nearby MPH bookstores browsing thru books on planes). No surprise that me dream back then was to be a pilot!

On National Days back home, when younger, we would watch the parade on TV and when the jets flew by, we would run out and see the same jets since we lived in the suburbs of KL.

In recent times, i have had the privillege to experience the fly-by of the MIG-29s. The first was during the opening ceremony of the very first F1 race in Malaysia at the spanking brand new multi-million ringgit circuit at Sepang. The MIG-29s literally blew me away! It was awesome. They flew by so low and the sound of the jet engines literaly shook the ground we were standing on. Car alarms went off all over the place. We were treated by a short show of flying skills. I had tears in me eyes!

The second occasion was after court late one morning, close to National Day. I was walking by the side of the Jalan Raja Courts (where the National Day parade takes place) and i heard them from afar. I knew it was them and i guessed they must have been making a practice run before the real day. I stopped on me tracks and spun around, looking up into the hot afternoon sky, trying to catch a glimpse of them.

Suddenly, they appeared. And man, were they flying low. The roar was deafening. Adrenaline rushed thru me as they flew by - again shaking the ground and triggering off the cheaper car alarms nearby!

So the thought of seeing the famed Red Arrows in action left me salivating at the prospect.

But as you can tell, i am now still in Rayleigh Tower, Colchester, away from central London. Today is after all Saturday, and the day i meet up online wif me "butt-dees" for our weekly round of games, jokes and catching up.

Oh, it only this morning that i found out that not only will the Red Arrows be making the flypast, the Eurofigher Typhoon fighter jets will also be involve in the flypast!

What's new? - Silje Nergaard

I was surfing when i came to Paul Tan's blog and found out that the Satria replacement model is finally out back home! It's called "Satria Neo", literally, the New Satria(?)!!! Check out Paul's review on it plus loads of pics including some nice interior ones here.

Not bad looking-eh? The pic on the right (taken from Paul's blog) is the "Twillight Blue" colour - something like me old car. It looks like black but under the light, you can see the blueish tint (of course me old one was green).

The brilliant red looks good too.

Well, this could be me car when me get back - after all, what can a poor fella like me afford?

Sigh... it's less than a year after selling off me WGM 510 and i'm oredi looking at other models!

The review by Paul sounds good, tho. Well, it remains to be seen.

Don't cry for me Argentina - Madonna

...but rather, methinks that the other nations will be crying after watching the masterclass on football given by Argentina yesterday during their match against Serbia & Montenegro!

If i never watch another game of footie again, at least, i know i watched one of the best games ever!

It was truly incredible! And scary. Very scary!

Din watch it? Well, here is an example of the class they showed:-


The best goal of this year's world cup?



24 passes all around the park before an excellent backheel and a clinical finish! Now , that's how football is played!!!!!

Mind you, i've never been a fan of Argentina - i've always been supporters of Argentina's nemesis like Brazil and England.

But one will have to hold up one's hands and admit that the football played yesterday was a class above the rest! Even the British pundits were all so full of praise - and you do know the history between England and Argentina!!!!

The way they controlled the game was astonishing! The movement around the park was so fluid. The passes excellent and includes the whole nine yards - backheels, audacious flicks, sublime touches.

Do not take anything away from Serbia and Montenegro. They are no pushovers - especially when it comes to their defence. Even if you watch the clip above, you can see the line held by the defence - something which they do so well with so much discipline. No way a team like England would score against them.

But with the passes and fluidity of movement around the pitch, Argentina were just all over them and moved in and out the well disciplined defence wif ease!

Wat's ever scarier for the other teams is that Argnetina can call up players like Messi and Tevez from the bench!

To the other teams - be afraid. Be very afraid!

The only hope that the English pundits are holding on to is that the Argentina team peaked too early! Even then, it is hard to see England going the distance wif teams like Czech and Spain on a song! At least Stevie G was honest enuf to say that if England dun improve, they won't go the distance.

Speaking of Stevie, did you guys see his excellent goal against T&T? The only bright spark - and the only thing which elicited some show of emotion from me during the horribly boring game (if u were an England fan). This has been said so many times in the pass few years and is being said again now - but i will still say it here too - why isn't Stevie G playing in a more advanced midfield role? The position which he excels and scored so many goals for Liverpool? The position which he was in when he scored that goal the other day? Instead, England still insist on using him as a holding midfield role while Frank Lampard keeps on taking shots as if he was aiming for the goalie!!!!

The way England uses Stevie G is like driving a Ferari at gear 2 only - or playing only on 1 string on a 5-string bass!!!! Sure, the job can get done... but wat a waste. What a waste!

Thank U - Alanis Morrisette

With so many things going... well, not that many, come to think about it - just 3 matches a day! Anyways, i almost forgot that results are out today - results for me exams.

In a way, it was good cuz i din have to spend days wondering if i would pass or not (like during me undergraduate days when me mate, Stephan and i were suffering mentally thinking of all worse case scenarios!!!).

But as i made me way to the postgraduate law office, memories of the last time came back - the disappointment, the heartache (read bout it here).

Anyways, to cut the long story short, i passed. More than that, i did well. Pretty well, actually. Extremely well! :-)

No, this post is not about self-glorification. Some of you may remember the difficult time i had just before the exams, falling sick and all. (If not, you can read bout it here).

I had to rely fully on God to enable me to study and perform in the exams while i was down wif flu.

No way can i take any glory from Him for i could not have done it without him! This is truly his grace and his blessings!

Thank you, Lord. Thank you.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

It's not right but it's ok - Whitney Houston

Japan played brilliantly - but lost it in the dying minutes and paid the price. The scoreline is certainly very harsh on the Japanese who defended so well for most of the 2nd half.

South Korea weren't playing football at all during the 1st half. No surprise that Togo - the most troubled team in the World Cup - took the lead deservedly. IMHO, the Koreans were helped by the red card - and to be fair, they scored 2 absolutely brilliant goals (and the girls who are merely watching the leng chai Koreans only certainly had their day!).

Sigh... no one says that football can be fair. It's not right - but it's ok. Korea won! Woohoo!

Japan? Well, as i told Chiaki last nite, it's ok too. Japan will just have to beat Brazil, that's all! No worries, there! ;-P

I'll remember - Madonna

I found yesterday that the Orthodox Church celebrated Pentecost. As they celebrate Easter one week later than us protestants, that would mean that Pentecost for us was on the 4th of June (7 weeks after Easter). A quick check at Wikipedia confirmed that.

Now that got me thinking - we never celebrate Pentecost at all back home. Nor do we even remember it - which explains why i needed Wikipedia to confirm the date. Why?

Some smart alec will prolly retort back "Why should we in the first place?". Fair question. After all, we were never told to celebrate it, nor even to remember it.

Well, neither are we ever commanded to celebrate nor to commemorate the birth of Jesus - the coming of God the Son in the form of man to this earth. But it is something that brings much joy and calls for celebration.

So why dun we celebrate and commemorate the coming of God the Holy Spirit? Isn't that something that brings much joy and calls for celebration too?

I really, really, really hope that this (the fact that brethren assemblies back home in general, and the TLC in particular do not remember Pentecost) has nothing to do with the charismatic movement.

Sori for being so negative - but i'll never forget one particular camp at Genting Highlands where they had an open forum (which i'm sure the elders regretted later). Someone asked why is it we dun raise hands nor encourage it during our worship meetings - i'm sure that i was not the only one glad that the question was asked.

I almost fell off me chair in disbelief when the answer was given - apparently, raising of hands is always associated with the charismatic churches so we, the TLC do not want to be associated with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the...????

Hello? Raising of hands in worship has been around far longer than the existence of the charismatic church!!!!

And even if it is thus associated, wat is wrong of the act per se? If it is not wrong, then why disallow it merely cuz we dun wanna be associated with the charismatic church?

The reason i'm bringing that up is to illustrate the ... well, for want of better word at the moment, fear of the charismatic churches' practices, the fear of being associated with them - like they were some sort of disease!!!

I really pray that the reason why TLC does not remember Pentecost is not because they are afraid of being associated with the charismatics, or with speaking in tongues, or with being baptised with the Holy Spirit!

If that is not the reason, then why?

Pentecost was a wonderful occassion. That's when the Holy Spirit started dwelling in believers. That's when believers were empowered to live their lives for God. That's when the gifts of the Holy Spirit started to be manifested, gifts by which the Church is edified and God is glorified.

The only arguments i can think against celebrating the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost are also possible to be used against celebrating the coming of the Son of God. But if we think that it is still alright - and even should be encouraged - to celebrate the latter, then why not the former?

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 1v8

p/s - i'm not sure if the Charismatic Churches celebrate Pentecost. Anyone want to enlighten me on that?

I finally watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! Well, better late than never! It was the most look forward movie of 2005 for me - but somehow, due to busy-ness wif travelling and wif essays and exams last winter, plus i'm sure loads of procrastinating(!), i missed it. The fact that i din hear very good reviews about it din help too.

But watched it i finally did. Loved it! Every moment of it, right from the start til the end - almost wishing it wouldn't end!

There was a small concern on me part on how they are gonna transfer the story to the big screen - wif kids, and beavers, and wolves and a lion! One of me flatmates said he thought it was such a kiddie movie - but we have now established that save for Moulin Rogue and Chicago (where we both loved the former and hated the latter), our taste in movies are as different as chalk is from... roasted chicken wings!!!!

Anyways, me concerns were unfounded - Mr. Beaver was brilliant - and so were Mrs. Beaver, the fox, Mr. Tumnus and the rest of the CGI (or half CGI) characters! As for Lucy, she wasn't how i imagined her to be - but as the movie went on, she won me over wif her wide-eye performcance! :-)

My other concern was oso unfounded - i was afraid wat changes they might make to the wonderful original. But it was pretty faithful to Lewis' book.

It's just a pity that large-battles-on-open-ground has been so overdone since Braveheart brilliantly started it and the LOTR trilogies brought it to a level that IMHO cannot be topped.

Still, excellent movie. Was so touched in so many scenes - bear in mind that i have read the story before!

Just wanna highlight on only one of the many brilliant scenes - it was when Edmund was rescued and brought back to Aslan and to his brother and sisters.

Even with the knowledge of wat he has done, they were indeed truly happy to have him back safe.

Wat was piognant for me was when Aslan said something to the effect that what is done is done - there is no need to talk about it anymore.

Now, that's true forgiveness - not the crap that you hear so much today that "I forgive but i can't forget".

It is especially touching as it reminds me - as i'm sure Lewis intended it to - of God's great forgiveness for me! As one of me mates had blogged, Edmund is in so many ways like us. We have betrayed others and God himself - all for selfish (turkish?) delights. Yet, if we truly return to him, truly repent, he will forgive us. And he will wipe the slate clean. No record, nothing!

But... but how can that be? Well, because the price has been paid! Again Lewis depicted it so wonderfully in his book. Jesus paid the price for ALL our sins - that whoever believes in him will be forgiven their sins and cleanse from all of their wrongdoings.

Hard to think that the terrible sins we have committed openly and in secret - all forgiven and fogotten if we truly confess them before the Lord and ask for his forgiveness. But the price he paid was indeed high - and more than enough to cover all our sins.

Even today, his promise still remains - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1v9).

Mood Swings - Debbie Gibson

I wouldn't say that i was feeling down earlier. But i did got to You-Tube and started looking for some amusing clips - mainly as a distraction to get me mind off things. I did a search on "Malaysia".

I ended up feeling really depressed and down. Sigh...

I saw the clips of police brutality during the demonstration outside KLCC last month - the maker of the clip had a real sense of irony. The background music to the clip was none other than the Malaysian national anthem.

I saw clips of our members of parliament in "action" - even tho i have read about those incidents, seeing it on video was really disturbing. Yeah, there are clips on the "pergi jahanam" and "you keluar dari Malaysia". Others include a certain MP calling members of the opposition "monkeys". And many more painful stuffs. :-(

I was thinking of putting some of them up but i got too down and disgusted. if you want to view them, go there and search for "Malaysia" and "Polis" or "Parlimen" or... use your imagination.

Sigh... again.

Heck, since i'm on a roll - sigh!

Wanted to blog bout some other things but no mood now. I'll just leave you wif a hilarious clip (or down right dumb, depending on yr taste). Oh well... i can always trust Stephen Chow to put a smile on me face.

Hot in here - Nelly

If you have been watching England's game yesterday, u would have been informed that it was 30 degrees in Frankfurt. It wasn't that much cooler here. It's around 28 degrees now.

It's really getting hot. Yesterday, i broke out into a sweat while having a pretty enthusiatic solo jam session in me room (both left right neighbours not around so can raise the volumme a bit!).

Me both windows are opened as wide as possible 24/7 - altho, it can't really open that wide due to being on the 11th floor. Being on the 11th floor does mean i get some pretty nice breezes in me room which really helps in the heat.

having the windows opened meant that i'm getting quite a lot of bugs in me room - mozzies (but not like the ones in M'sia), flies, a spider on me table. No roaches, tho! :-)

While i'm all for the cold moody autumn, i must admit that summer can be really nice. For one, everyone's in a good mood. Chiaki is always humming some tune, Ghisseh goes around wif a wide smile all the time, everyone is chatty and relaxed.

And come evening, we get a wonderful blue evening sky - see the pic on right. We dun get such blue skies back home in M'sia, do we? (see the little crescent moon in the blue sky?)

The sun sets close to 10 pm now and it rises at slightly pass 4 am. I know cuz every morn, just before i go to bed, i'd sit in the kitchen and enjoy the glorious sunrise (see pic on left for example), have a chat wif Jesus, before going in to sleep.

Still, i'll prolly buy a fan for me room - unless the breeze continues all the time!

Dilemma - Nelly feat. Kelly Rowland

I've always been an England fan. Just like why i'm a Liverpool fan, it was influenced by me bro.

See the pic on the right? That's me during Chinese New Year this year - back in feb - decked out in me England colours! (Yup, tt's how i look wif short and tidy hair - some of me flatmates can't remember how i look wif short hair!!!!!).

It was major heartache for me in 1990 when England went out on penalties against Germany in the semis.

So am i all excited over their chances this time round?

I. Really. Don't. Know.

For one, i really, really dun like the coach. Wat a waste of good money! His choice of players, tactics and substitution is always a source of mystery not only to me but to footie pundits here.

Their first game this time round proved it again. While they started off well, they seem to lose direction in the 2nd half. This was compounded by the act of taking off Owen and leaving Crouch alone up front. Crouch is target man but who was he gonna knock the ball down for?

They tried to get Joe Cole to play in the hole behind Crouch and act as 2nd striker. The question that Alan Shearer asked after the match was why did they put a midfield player to play a striker's role when England has a striker on the bench? Was it cuz the sriker on the bench was untested Theo Walcott? Does Ericsson think Walcott may not be ready? If so, then why bring him in the first place? If it was Defoe or Johnson or Bent, surely they would be given the chance?

Crazy. England's game went down and they escaped by the skin of their teeth. The only chances they had was Lampard shooting directly at the goalie!

The other sub made was Owen Hargraves. It is still a mystery to many on why he is constantly in England's team!!!

Crouch? At least he got a good Robot dance...

Gerrard was made the holding midfield again - which he did reasonably well. But c'mon, look at how he plays as the attacking midfield for Liverpool! let him do that - especially when you have a more natural holding midfield players like Carrick.

I was almost rooting for Paraguay to score at the dying minutes - they deserved it.

But typically, England won by a 1-0 scoreline - and it wasn't an English striker (or for that matter, player) who made it on the scoresheet.

Sigh... so frustrating.

It is no secret that some of the England player are not me fav ones too!

I know at the end of the day, i'll be rooting for them - but it is getting more and more difficult.

So for now, it's Japan and Korea while they are still in the competition! I'll be watching the Jap game wif me Japanese coursemates next week! Shud be fun. :-)

Perfect - Simple Plan

Alright - in blogging mood again!

Wanted to blog about wat happenned on 06/06/06. But if you are expecting something on Omen, or antichrist or the end times, you are gonna be disappointed!!!

I went down to London on that day! :-)

But it was no ordinary trip - i went to do research.

Now when i said that to me flatmates, they gave me the "Yeah, rite" kind of look and asked, "What kind of research???" Research for me dissertation, of course! I am a student here - altho sumtimes from me blog, it is hard to believe! ;-P

So for the first time, i. did. not. take. any. photos.!!!!! I basically spent the whole day at the LSE library - the pretty warm and stuffy library! Dun get me wrong - it is excellent. But it was such a warm day that day - lovely outside!

It was nice studying there also because when i need a break, i'd just walk out and stroll along the Thames or in one of the parks nearby. Lovely.

I did however had lunch and dinner at Wong Kei again! Look, i have to admit that it is far from perfect - but i'll always go there!

First, it feels so like home! The other day, there was this uncle who was eating there and he was dressed like how all uncles would back home in the coffeshops - 70s shorts, the uncle-kind of slippers and an untucked shirt. There'll be another uncle working there who'll be humming some 60s Chinese tune as he clears the dishes. Waiters call familiar patrons leng chai and leng looi. They would be chatting out loud and sometimes, shout abuses at each other in good fun! so typical!

Contrary to their reputation, they are not so rude anymore. Altho there was once when they did throw some people out - well, they were told to go upstairs but they did not want to - so they were shown the door!!!!

Then, there's the price factor - it is the cheapest place for a decent meal in Chinatown! For rice, it's 4 quid and for noodles, 3.30. The price includes a small pot of chinese tea! Service charge is optional. And the portions are really value for money!

And with the new "system" in place where the front portion of the ground floor is dedicated to solo diners, i get to sit and enjoy the whole pot of tea without having to worry that i'll be kicked out - and at times, get to chat wif strangers. There was this Brit the other day who was trying to pick up this Russian chick. I was too busy wif me food! ;-P

The food? Well, the problem is consistency. But at worse, it is alright - wich is pretty impressive, if you think about it. Sometimes, it can be absolutely brilliant! Like on 06/06/06!!!! I was starving - as usual - and i ordered my usual siew yoke ngap farn. It was so so good! The siew yoke was excellent - skin was crunchy, the meat was tender with right amount of layers of fat and lean meat! The duck was out of the world! It was roasted just nice - so juicy and tender, and had that small layer of fat below the skin!!!! OK. It doesn't sound very healthy - but hey, since when are healthy foods tasty???

It was soooo good that when i went back there for dinner, i couldn't bring meself to order that again - for i knew it would not be as good and i'd end up disappointed. So i ordered wat someone else ordered - ngow larm meen. Wow!!!! OK. It doesn't have all the cow's "parts" but it was nevertheless... at the risk of sounding like a parrot - so so good! :-) The beef was tender and the soup was addictive!

Perfect? nah... but not far! ;-P~

What really made that day perfect for me was what happenned at the Lincoln's Inn Fields - a small park just outside LSE. I started chatting wif this person - for the first time in our lives. We have never seen each other before nor spoken a word to each other - but in that lovely summer evening, we just chatted away like we were old frens. :-) I was sorry when it was time for me to return to me studies - which was almost 2 hours after we started chatting!

See, i dun ask for much! ;-)

It's funny how in one moment, you can feel like you are on top of the world...



...and in the next, you are in the deepest darkest caves!


A couple of weeks ago, i blogged about one of me favourite accounts in the Bible - the story of Esther. I oso mentioned that other than that, i oso love the account of the story of the dreamer - Joseph.

I had always enjoyed reading that portion in the Bible. Here is someone who has been on top of the world - the favourite son, the trusted servant, the model prisoner and the Prime Minister. Yet, he has been "down" there before too - despised by his brothers, sold as a slave, convicted for a crime he did not commit, forgotten, and wept alone in secret.

The only thing that was constant in his life was God's faithfulness to him. And no matter wat happenned to Joseph, he trusted in God and glorified him.

So much so that at the end of the story, he harboured no bitterness at all - not one iota - against his brothers for selling him off as a slave. After all, in Jospeh's own words, God meant it for good to save many people. Little did he know at that time that God was also preserving the line of Israel because it is from this line that the saviour of the world would be born.

It is always easy with the benefit of hindsight to see that God has been at work all this time. It is during times when we wonder why is this happening, why didn't that happen instead, if only i did not do that, if only i had met you earlier, etc. that we have to have faith - to trust in God, that he is working out a plan in everything. And that one day, we'd look back and see the amazing way of how the great God works.

For God is love and in all things, he work for the good of those who love him. I have to constantly remind meself of that - whether i'm soaring high in the skies or i'm down in the dumps.

Well, since i'm on a roll, might as well post up another unforgettable clip!

Love Actually in fact has so many wonderful and unforgettable scenes - the whole movie is brilliant. And it starts right from the opening scene above.

The footages used in the scene above are real life footages filmed at the arrivals gate in Heathrow. After filming, the people were asked for their permission to use their footages.

Coupled with Hugh Grant's narration, it is one of the best opening scene to any movie i've watched.
When i first watched the movie, this scene just hit me and i got hooked onto the movie. Hope u like it!

While the "I am your father" scene is a classic, i love this scene from Episode 5. The emotions, the music, the expressions on all.

Originally, when Leia said "I love you", Han was to reply "I love you, too". Thank goodness Harrison Ford din think that the reply suited his character and on his suggestion, the line was changed to the brilliant one that you hear in the clip above.
