Perfect - Simple Plan
Alright - in blogging mood again!
Wanted to blog about wat happenned on 06/06/06. But if you are expecting something on Omen, or antichrist or the end times, you are gonna be disappointed!!!
I went down to London on that day! :-)
But it was no ordinary trip - i went to do research.
Now when i said that to me flatmates, they gave me the "Yeah, rite" kind of look and asked, "What kind of research???" Research for me dissertation, of course! I am a student here - altho sumtimes from me blog, it is hard to believe! ;-P
So for the first time, i. did. not. take. any. photos.!!!!! I basically spent the whole day at the LSE library - the pretty warm and stuffy library! Dun get me wrong - it is excellent. But it was such a warm day that day - lovely outside!
It was nice studying there also because when i need a break, i'd just walk out and stroll along the Thames or in one of the parks nearby. Lovely.
I did however had lunch and dinner at Wong Kei again! Look, i have to admit that it is far from perfect - but i'll always go there!
First, it feels so like home! The other day, there was this uncle who was eating there and he was dressed like how all uncles would back home in the coffeshops - 70s shorts, the uncle-kind of slippers and an untucked shirt. There'll be another uncle working there who'll be humming some 60s Chinese tune as he clears the dishes. Waiters call familiar patrons leng chai and leng looi. They would be chatting out loud and sometimes, shout abuses at each other in good fun! so typical!
Contrary to their reputation, they are not so rude anymore. Altho there was once when they did throw some people out - well, they were told to go upstairs but they did not want to - so they were shown the door!!!!
Then, there's the price factor - it is the cheapest place for a decent meal in Chinatown! For rice, it's 4 quid and for noodles, 3.30. The price includes a small pot of chinese tea! Service charge is optional. And the portions are really value for money!
And with the new "system" in place where the front portion of the ground floor is dedicated to solo diners, i get to sit and enjoy the whole pot of tea without having to worry that i'll be kicked out - and at times, get to chat wif strangers. There was this Brit the other day who was trying to pick up this Russian chick. I was too busy wif me food! ;-P
The food? Well, the problem is consistency. But at worse, it is alright - wich is pretty impressive, if you think about it. Sometimes, it can be absolutely brilliant! Like on 06/06/06!!!! I was starving - as usual - and i ordered my usual siew yoke ngap farn. It was so so good! The siew yoke was excellent - skin was crunchy, the meat was tender with right amount of layers of fat and lean meat! The duck was out of the world! It was roasted just nice - so juicy and tender, and had that small layer of fat below the skin!!!! OK. It doesn't sound very healthy - but hey, since when are healthy foods tasty???
It was soooo good that when i went back there for dinner, i couldn't bring meself to order that again - for i knew it would not be as good and i'd end up disappointed. So i ordered wat someone else ordered - ngow larm meen. Wow!!!! OK. It doesn't have all the cow's "parts" but it was nevertheless... at the risk of sounding like a parrot - so so good! :-) The beef was tender and the soup was addictive!
Perfect? nah... but not far! ;-P~
What really made that day perfect for me was what happenned at the Lincoln's Inn Fields - a small park just outside LSE. I started chatting wif this person - for the first time in our lives. We have never seen each other before nor spoken a word to each other - but in that lovely summer evening, we just chatted away like we were old frens. :-) I was sorry when it was time for me to return to me studies - which was almost 2 hours after we started chatting!
See, i dun ask for much! ;-)

the Fields used to be my scenic route home from Sainsbury's at Holborn, or if I was going to the exam hall at UCL in Tavistock. Say, you should pop into all the Inns lah and explore it a lil. Especially now when their gardens are in bloom. Middle Temple Hall especially is a knock-out. Used in a no. of films.
