Anything but ordinary - Avril Lavigne

It's not even 10:30 in the morning and i'm oredi awake, had me breakfast, read the bible and washed some clothes! Last nite, i have had me dinner and washed up everything before 8:30 pm! I was telling me flatmates - to their amusement, some of whom were still eating their dinner - that i like an ordinary person now, doing things in normal times of the day!

But i've always liked to be ... well, not so normal! In the good sense, of course! To stand out, to be outstanding (not "out standing"), to shine (Of course, this does not mean eating at midnight and sleeping til 2 pm each day).

After all, as Christians, we are called to be the salt of the earth (Matt 5v12-14), to shine as lights in the world (Phil 2v15).

I met some of these people recently.

The elder in the church i'm attending here told me that he'll be leaving in October - for good. He'll be uprooting himself andgoing to serve full time in Switzerland. Now some of you would think "Switzerland? I wouldn't mind doing that!!!". But for a man of his age, who is established here in this neighbourhood and in the church, to go, it would take a lot of sacrifices. He shared how diificult it would be for him as he has been here like for so long! But he is nevertheless excited!

I met another missionary who is working among the students from China here on campus. He had beena missionary in Taiwan before coming over here 10 years ago. He speaks wif joy at how the work has progressed thruout the years, how the students are now more opened and less fearful to the gospel.

Then there is another mate back home who is off for another of her mission trip in the region. She is understandably excited over it - even if it means that she'll miss most of the prelim stages of the World Cup! The sacrifices one makes... ;-P

I've been so encouraged by these brothers and sister.

So am i saying that as Christians, we are all to go out as missionaries? No of course not. When i asked the elder about the mission work of the church here, he said that "Our mission field is Greenstead" (I attend the Greenstead Evangelical Church). The preacher last Sunday, when he spoke on Romans 1v16 said that not all are called to be missionaries but we are all called to be witnesses.

So for some of us, our mission field is somewhere far. For others, it could be the OA. Or it is most probably your school, office or workplace.

Me? I really honestly dun know about the future. But for now, me mission field is still here in Flat 11.

Pray for me... and the missionaries all over the world.

There is a new army coming and we are armed with faith
To live, we must give
To live

And lend out voices only to sounds of freedom
No longer lend out strength to that which we with to be free from
Fill your lives with love and bravery
And we shall lead a life uncommon
