Don't cry for me Argentina - Madonna
...but rather, methinks that the other nations will be crying after watching the masterclass on football given by Argentina yesterday during their match against Serbia & Montenegro!
If i never watch another game of footie again, at least, i know i watched one of the best games ever!
It was truly incredible! And scary. Very scary!
Din watch it? Well, here is an example of the class they showed:-
The best goal of this year's world cup?
24 passes all around the park before an excellent backheel and a clinical finish! Now , that's how football is played!!!!!
Mind you, i've never been a fan of Argentina - i've always been supporters of Argentina's nemesis like Brazil and England.
But one will have to hold up one's hands and admit that the football played yesterday was a class above the rest! Even the British pundits were all so full of praise - and you do know the history between England and Argentina!!!!
The way they controlled the game was astonishing! The movement around the park was so fluid. The passes excellent and includes the whole nine yards - backheels, audacious flicks, sublime touches.
Do not take anything away from Serbia and Montenegro. They are no pushovers - especially when it comes to their defence. Even if you watch the clip above, you can see the line held by the defence - something which they do so well with so much discipline. No way a team like England would score against them.
But with the passes and fluidity of movement around the pitch, Argentina were just all over them and moved in and out the well disciplined defence wif ease!
Wat's ever scarier for the other teams is that Argnetina can call up players like Messi and Tevez from the bench!
To the other teams - be afraid. Be very afraid!
The only hope that the English pundits are holding on to is that the Argentina team peaked too early! Even then, it is hard to see England going the distance wif teams like Czech and Spain on a song! At least Stevie G was honest enuf to say that if England dun improve, they won't go the distance.
Speaking of Stevie, did you guys see his excellent goal against T&T? The only bright spark - and the only thing which elicited some show of emotion from me during the horribly boring game (if u were an England fan). This has been said so many times in the pass few years and is being said again now - but i will still say it here too - why isn't Stevie G playing in a more advanced midfield role? The position which he excels and scored so many goals for Liverpool? The position which he was in when he scored that goal the other day? Instead, England still insist on using him as a holding midfield role while Frank Lampard keeps on taking shots as if he was aiming for the goalie!!!!
The way England uses Stevie G is like driving a Ferari at gear 2 only - or playing only on 1 string on a 5-string bass!!!! Sure, the job can get done... but wat a waste. What a waste!
