Please forgive me - Bryan Adams
I finally watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! Well, better late than never! It was the most look forward movie of 2005 for me - but somehow, due to busy-ness wif travelling and wif essays and exams last winter, plus i'm sure loads of procrastinating(!), i missed it. The fact that i din hear very good reviews about it din help too.
But watched it i finally did. Loved it! Every moment of it, right from the start til the end - almost wishing it wouldn't end!
There was a small concern on me part on how they are gonna transfer the story to the big screen - wif kids, and beavers, and wolves and a lion! One of me flatmates said he thought it was such a kiddie movie - but we have now established that save for Moulin Rogue and Chicago (where we both loved the former and hated the latter), our taste in movies are as different as chalk is from... roasted chicken wings!!!!
Anyways, me concerns were unfounded - Mr. Beaver was brilliant - and so were Mrs. Beaver, the fox, Mr. Tumnus and the rest of the CGI (or half CGI) characters! As for Lucy, she wasn't how i imagined her to be - but as the movie went on, she won me over wif her wide-eye performcance! :-)
My other concern was oso unfounded - i was afraid wat changes they might make to the wonderful original. But it was pretty faithful to Lewis' book.
It's just a pity that large-battles-on-open-ground has been so overdone since Braveheart brilliantly started it and the LOTR trilogies brought it to a level that IMHO cannot be topped.
Still, excellent movie. Was so touched in so many scenes - bear in mind that i have read the story before!
Just wanna highlight on only one of the many brilliant scenes - it was when Edmund was rescued and brought back to Aslan and to his brother and sisters.
Even with the knowledge of wat he has done, they were indeed truly happy to have him back safe.
Wat was piognant for me was when Aslan said something to the effect that what is done is done - there is no need to talk about it anymore.
Now, that's true forgiveness - not the crap that you hear so much today that "I forgive but i can't forget".
It is especially touching as it reminds me - as i'm sure Lewis intended it to - of God's great forgiveness for me! As one of me mates had blogged, Edmund is in so many ways like us. We have betrayed others and God himself - all for selfish (turkish?) delights. Yet, if we truly return to him, truly repent, he will forgive us. And he will wipe the slate clean. No record, nothing!
But... but how can that be? Well, because the price has been paid! Again Lewis depicted it so wonderfully in his book. Jesus paid the price for ALL our sins - that whoever believes in him will be forgiven their sins and cleanse from all of their wrongdoings.
Hard to think that the terrible sins we have committed openly and in secret - all forgiven and fogotten if we truly confess them before the Lord and ask for his forgiveness. But the price he paid was indeed high - and more than enough to cover all our sins.
Even today, his promise still remains - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1v9).
