Hello Goodbye - The Beatles

The big match was yesterday - arguably 2 of the best teams so far in the World Cup meet. Germany and Argentina! The thought of it is drool-inducing!

But nope, me din watch it! Me was in me room watching tennis!!!!!! :-)

No regrets, tho. What a game! What a brilliant game!

I mentioned in an earlier post that i enjoy watching players like Hingis and Sugiyama play - and it was these 2 players who took on to the Centre Court yesterday afternoon! An ever bigger drool-inducing game!

I watched it wif a bittersweet feeling - watching 2 of me fav players play could only result in one thing - one will have to say goodbye, the other, hello to the next round.

It was Hingis who had to say goodbye in the end.

But wat a game! Yes, i'm beginning to sound like a parrot! But wat a game!

None of of those power shots where players try to pound each other into submission with high-pitch shierks to accompany their ground shots.

As the commentators said, both players are so similar in style - just that Hingis does everything a little better. Which resulted in me automatically rooting for Sugiyama the underdog - altho i cheered Hingis on too! It was weird! ;-)

They played such a thoughtful tennis game. As for Hingis, you can never predict her - she tries everything and anything. From groundshots, to lobs, to drop shots, to serve and volley. You just dun know wat to expect from her! And she deos it all so well! And she always gets back into wonderful positions.

Sugiyama on the other hand chases everything down. She'd be scampering from one end to the other, with her never say die attitude - and her deadly double-handed backhand which was a joy to watch! Being such an experienced doubles player, her skills at the net volleying was oso a thrill to watch!

It was a rollercoaster ride. Jus when Hingis was in control of the first game, she seemed to lose it - and Sugiyama took the first set 7-5. Hingis came back strong in the second set, improving on her second serve and Sugiyama was made to run miles - in vain. Hingis took the 2nd set 6-3 and raced to a 3-0 lead in the the decider.

Looks like it's only damage control for Sugiyama as i hope she won't have the embarrassment of losing 6-0. Sugiyama had other ideas. Digging deep into her vast experience, she pushed on and prolly even surprised Hingis wif her fighting attitude. And suddenly, Sugiyama's backhand was back, deadlier than ever.

I must talk about her backhand - she is short as it is but she'd go so low, knee almost touching the ground, swings her racquet using both hands wif such timing and skill, the follow thru was perfect. And the result is the ball landing in the corner edge of Hingis' court who could only watch it in vain!

When it ended wif Sugiyama triumphing over Hingis, it was such a bittersweet moment for me! Yeah, Sugiyama! Boo hoo, Hingis.

It was not the end, tho. In the post-match interview, Hingis - obviously disappointed - din take anything away from Sugiyama and praised her opponent.

It was nice to see you back in Wimbledon, Hingis. We'll miss your smile - til next year!

OK. Gtg. Another drool-inducing game - Agassi and Nadal!!!!!
