Fool again - Westlife

In an earlier post, i praised the Malaysian Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for inter alia speaking out on the importance of upholding human rights. While the M'sian police is far from perfct, i said that wat the IGP did was a small step in the right direction. Read about it here.

Well, i was wrong! Dead wrong. A step forward? More like one step forward and 10 steps back!!!! I should have known better!

After all the talk about human rights (which turns out to be bunkum), the IGP issues a directive requiring all policewomen to wear the tudung during official functions! Read the big fight that took place in the Parliament here.

While some seemingly not-so-bright politicians like Datuk Mohd Alwi Che Ahamad said it was nothing wrong and that non-Muslim politicians in Europe and Australia have worn scarves before, we all in Malaysia kno that the tudung is not just a fashion accessory. The tudung is wat a Muslim woman wears for religious purpose. The hypocr... i mean the IGP is basically infringing the rights of the policewomen - inter alia, their rights to practice their religion and their freedom of expression - both includes the right not to be forced to follow the practices of another religion.

Some brainless chap said there was no such infringement cuz they can choose not to follow the IGP's directive! Yeah, expect a policewoman not to follow the directive of the highest ranking police officer in the land.

A step closer? I was a fool to believe so. If the IGP is like this, we are far away. So very far away.
