I'm not a girl, not yet a woman - Britney Spears

I mentioned in my earlier post about the sore (loser?) Henry saying that he is thinking of learning how to dive.

Well, i was reading the report in another newspaper online (ok, ok, i shud be studying but i need a break, alrite? As the Cantonese say, "One still needs to breath even when hanging on a noose!") and i found the full quote of Henry - and i cracked up laughing!

Here's his quote in full:-

"Some of the referee's decisions today were horrendous. Next time I should learn how to dive maybe but I'm not a woman so I stay on my feet".

Dun believe me? Read the report here!

What a sexist remark!!!!! I would love to hear what some of me pro-feminist coursemates have to say about that!!!!!!

Sigh... it is sad oso how he is blaming the ref when he had MANY chances to put the game beyond Barca but did not do so.

hi munonn, i beg to differ. you should watch the game before making all these strong remarks. not only do you infer from reports by other ppl, you are already biased from the start..

i watched the goals, and the full interview with henry. the remark was a little sexist, but he's not a sore loser. he was jst being honest in saying that had arsenal continued to play the full game with 11 men, he would be able to agree that the best team won.

if you watched the match you would have seen henry's body language, and how he was chasing every ball, giving it his all. it's hard to play alone up front, and more so when you're playing with 10 men. you get tired. i don't blame him for missing the chances he had. at least he created them.

barca had their equal share of playacting. i agree with those who questioned the quality of the refereeing yesterday. it was a tad inconsistent.

ok. after thinking about it, i'm not letting this go.

first, kindly point out which "strong remarks" you are referring to.

secondly, all reports referred were local reports i.e. supporters of Arsenal.

thirdly, yeah, i'm biased. so? ;-P

fourthly, i never expressly say he is a sore loser. in any event, check out the meaning of "sore loser" and you will see that it is not wrong to describe him so. oh, one can be an honest sore loser, you know!

fifthly, football is unpredictable. a team can up its tempo and play better when down to 10 men - see Monaco v Chelsea 2004 semi-finals. so it's no guarantee that if a team plays well with 10 men, they'd do the same with 11. there are just too many "what ifs".

sixthly, a true pro would know and accept that referee's mistakes are all part of the game (until FIFA does something about it). remember, it was Maradona's handball which gave Argentina the lead against England in 1986.

finally, in football, it is about not "what is fair". wat matters in the end is who scores the most goals which are adjudged to be legit. See FA Cup final 2005 where Man Utd controlled the game but Viera managed to nick one for Arsenal and they won. Was it fair? Personally, i din think so. But i acknowledge it was a legal win!

and if you still wanna talk about it, let's do it over dinner at me place! :-) my exams end tomorrow. Lemme know when u r free!
