Don't be cruel - Cheap Trick

I'm studying International Human Rights - but I'm speaking out now for animal rights!

Sure, animals dun deserve the same rights as humans - but does that mean we can do anything we want to them? They are after all God's wonderful creation. As a child of God, I will speak out against those who abuse my Father's beautiful handiwork. I mean, we dun have to all be vegetarians but we dun have to torture the animals!

Why the sudden urge to talk about this? Well, I read 2 news reports today - about people who were in Court over animal abuse.

The first is a case reported in Malaysia.

Engineer fined RM100 for animal abuse: A doggone shame!
RITA JONG
SHAH ALAM, SELANGOR, Oct 18

An engineer who neglected his pedigree German Shepherd to such an extent it had to be put to sleep, was fined RM100 for neglect — a sentence which sparked an outcry among animal lovers.

The seven-year-old canine, going by the name Sheena, was found in a pitiful state and was put to sleep immediately by the Kuala Lumpur Veterinary Services Department as it could not be saved.

Read the article here.

The second is more horrifying - partly cuz I'm a cat-lover!

Prison for spin wash cat killer

A mother-of-three who killed the family's cat by deliberately putting it in a washing machine has been jailed.

Fluffy the cat took up to 10 minutes to die after 34-year-old Holly Thacker put the animal in the machine at her home in Hellesdon, Norwich, a court heard.

Vets told the court that Fluffy was gripping to the washer's metal drum so tightly its claws broke off as it spun round. Eventually the cat drowned.

Read the horrifying details here.

How can anyone be so cruel to animals? Perhaps in the latter case, one might say that the woman had mental problem. But in the former case, the guilty person was a professional!!!! And he got off wif a tap on his wrists - a RM100 fine (less than 15 quid!!!!).

What is wrong wif these people???
