Christmas is all around - Bill Nighy
A couple of weeks ago, I received a text message from Weng Soon who reminded that Christmas is coming and he asked if I was gonna watch "Love Actually". I replied that it was on me list of must-watch Christmas movies!
However, I never found the time to do so. Not before Christmas anyways.
I watched it last nite! Better late than never. :-)
The sweet Keira!
Sure, it had the sweet Keira, the ever enjoyable Hugh Grant, the excellent Alan Rickman, the dependable Emma Thompson, the hilarious Rowan Atkinson... the list just goes on and on. and cameos of Elisha Cuthbert, Denise Richards and Claudia Schiffer! Coupled wif an excellent soundtrack (save the the song that is the title of this post!) wif songs by the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Dido, Bay City Rollers, Norah Jones, the Pointer Sisters etc.
But to me, I just simply loved its simple, honest, humourous and piognant depictions of love! It never fails to draw tears from me - and being in such a frail emotional state as I am now, tears flowed freely - interspersed wif laughter!
The movie starts and ends the same way - showing scenes filmed at the Heathrow arrival hall. According to IMDB, these scenes are real scenes caught by the camera crew (and used wif the permission of those filed, of course) which was stationed there for a week. It is such a beautiful scene - people expressing love and joy over the reunion of loved ones.
I could go on and on and list down all the other wonderful scenes - but I would only end up describing the entire movie.
The whole movie is made of many sub-plots - mini love stories. But not your typical love stories! There is (the heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time) love between a sister and her brother, there is the love between best of frens, there is the secret love that will never be, there is the love between a man and his stepson, the love between a singer and his manager... and there is love between 2 body stand-ins which in a humourous and ironic way is the most purest love depicted between a man and a woman in the movie!
It is hard to choose but if I had to, my favourite sub-plot is the one involving Peter, Mark and Juliet. Peter and Mark are the best of frens and Peter just married Juliet. Mark is cold towards Juliet and there was even a suggestion early on that perhaps Mark had homosexual tendencies towards Peter which explains his attitude towards Juliet. But in the end, it was revealed that Mark had all along loved Juliet - but he kept his distance, perhaps out of respect and love for his best fren, or perhaps as a form of self-preservation - to prevent himself from getting hurt. I loved it - the irony, the self-sacrificing nature, the ... love!
Wanna feel all warm and fuzzy - or perhaps even shed a tear or two? Catch this briliant movie!
Me? I'll prolly watch my other Christmas movie now - "While you were sleeping". Now where are me tissues???

the adultery subplot was really sad. but u r rite - so real, so dangerous. i mean, he din really commit adultery - he sort of like flirt with the idea and bought his secretary a gift.
but the damage was done. it was rather sad that in their final scene at the airport, you can tell that their relationship was never the same again. :-(
btw, altho they were not meant for me, thanks a lot for the pics on yr blog - yeah, food, glorious food... :-P~

well, i must say that i have to disagree. look at emma thompson's expression and alan's rickman's expression.
i think they never really got over that.
but then again, i may be wrong.
i guess that's one thing nice about a movie - to watch it and get differing views!
prosperity? well, chinese new year is around the corner - that's when the REAL overeating will begin!!!! not here, tho... :-(

Have seen it dozens of times (thanks to my lovely bro who bought it for me after finding out how much i wanted it)
I got the TLC gang to watch it, but they weren't that into it sadly.. =(
My mom cant stand watching me watching it, cause i grin like a fool at the awww parts, and the grin doesn't go away
Cant decide which is fav though..
I liked the stand-in actors story cause its so unexpected that THAT occupation wld appear,seemed so unlikely and no one really was bothered about them...
