I believe his name is Johann Lippowitz and he's a part of a comedy group called "The Hollowmen".

hhmmm... u may have pointed out one of the reasons - the crowd's response. i guess that's why they have the canned laughter or studio audience participation for sitcoms!
still, the long version is worth catching for at least 2 parts - the part when Natalie sings "Ooooo..." and the guitar solo part! :-)
